Shali temple dedicated to goddess Bhima Kali is situated on top of Shali peak. It is a standalone peak having an altitude of around 9,400 feet. It is at a distance of around 60 kilometers from old bus stand Shimla. The nearest stoppage to the temple is Khatnol village.

The place is visited both by locals as well as tourists. Large no of devotees come to the temple during Navratri (Nine days dedicated to different goddess).
Shali peak or Shali tibba is also awesome spot for trek and camping. Tekkers from India as well from foreigners come here for trekking. Reason for choosing Shali for trekking is that it not very far from Shimla and it takes around 2 hours in bus and slightly more than 1 hour in a car. If you go via cab than you can reach Ragnu Nala directly where only small vehicles can reach. If you plan to reach by bus than you will have to deboard at Khatnol. The trek would take around 2-3 hours from Khatnol and about half hour less from Ragnu nala. If can make this trek more hard by starting trekking from Thaila. For that you need to deboard at Thaila bus stop. To reach here you need to either take a bus to Khatnol from Shimla or preferably hire take a taxi from Shimla.

Sankat Mochan temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman is one of the major tourist’s attractions in Shimla. It is situated to the side of NH 5 and is at a distance of 7 kilometers from Shimla bus stand. The temple has a very nice location and is away from city hustle bustle.
The place is surrounded by trees that add to the view. You can get a remarkable view of Shimla city from Sankat Mochan, especially at night. In the main temple lies the statue of Lord Hanuman. There are other complexes with idols of Lord Shiva, Lord Rama, and Lord Ganesh. In one of the complex, there is a temple dedicated to Baba Neeb Karori. Bhandaras (free food for devotees) are held on Sundays.
Sankat Mochan Temple was established in 1966. Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj visited this place in 1950 and was deeply influenced by its peacefulness and natural beauty. Admiring its serenity he stayed here in a hut for ten days doing meditation. He was so impressed with Sankat Mochan that he thought of establishing a temple here that would be dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
The contemporary Lt Governor of Himachal Pradesh was one of a disciple of Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj. To keep his gurus wish he began the construction of the temple and completed it in June 1966. Sankat Mochan Temple was a small structure at that time. With time the temple slowly gained popularity and got funds for construction of the temple complex. Now the entire temple complex is quite huge and offers good amenities.
The temple is at a distance of 7 kilometers from Shimla. You can either take a local bus or hire a taxi to reach here. The Mall road Shimla is the major attraction of Shimla city. It is the city’s center and has number of restaurants, shops, cafes and showrooms. Build with old British architecture mall road has heritage Gaiety Theater. It was contructed in the year 1887. You will see foreigners, Indian tourists coming from across the country roaming strolling around and having great time here. Many popular film personalities have performed on its stage. Baljees restaurant (one of the best bakeries) and Indian Coffee House are most rated. The road is restricted for private vehicles and thus you won’t have to struggle with traffic. Just attached to it is Ridge road that meets mall road at Scandal point.
The ridge road also part of heritage walk offers great views of nearby peaks including Shali peak which is nearest peak to Shimla. The ridge is an open space that is situated on top of Shimla city. The famous Christ church of Shimla is situated here. It has few restaurants and ice cream par lours. We prefer Loveena’s ice cream over others. You can also do horse riding here. You can also find local photographers that will give you in special costumes for the photographs they take.
The Christ Church stands tall to the one side of the Ridge. Built with old British architecture this structure is one of the identities of Shimla. You can spent some time in there and experience its peacefulness.
Just attached to ridge is the famous Lakkar bazaar which is known for its wooden articles. In real in past logs of wood were sold here and hence it got the name Lakkar Bazaar. Carrying the name forward the markets has lots of small shops that sells wooden showpieces. You could also buy one to keep it as a souvenir. It also has a roller skating rink where you could also try hands onto skating. There is this famous chana batura shop Sita Ram & Sons which attracts a huge crowd everyday.
Solang Valley is a major tourist attraction in Manali and is just 13 kilometers from Manali. Solang valley is very scenic place especially in winters as one could see magnificent snow-capped peaks and Glaciers from here. It is famous for its adventure activities and is true adventurer paradise. During summers you can do parachuting, zorbing, paragliding and horse riding. In winters can do skiing and tobogganing. You can also get your hands on an ATV / Quad bike.
You can visit Solang throughout the year because it always has something to offer. However adventure activities are different for Winters and Summer. If you want to do skiing than you should plan with December to February.

Hidimba Temple also known as Dhungri Temple is most visited spot by tourists and pilgrims in Manali. It is at a distance of just 2 kilometers from Manali bus stand. The temple is located in the middle of a dense deodar forest known as dhungri van vihar. Built with pagoda roof structure the temple stands 24 metres high. The ancient temple is dedicated to Hidimbi Devi and is built around the the cave where she used to meditate . Raja Bahadur Singh built this temple in 1553.
As per mythology Himdimbi devi who belonged Rakshasa family use to live here with his brother Hidimb. She vowed that she would marry someone who would defeat Hidimb in a fight. Bhima one of the five pandavas who were on exile that time killed Hidimb. Keeping to her vow Hidimbi married Bhim. They also had a son named Ghatotkacha who was an important character in the Mahabharata.When after completion of the exile Bhim returned back, Hidimba choose to stay back and meditate and later achieved status of goddess.

One of the most preferred spots by tourists in Manali is Vashisht village. It is situated on banks of river Beas and is just 3 kilometers from Manali. Famous for its hot water springs popularly known as Vashisht Kund. The hot water spring is said to therapeutic values and can treat some skin problems. Separate baths have been built for men and women. Showers are made of Turkish style. Inlets and outlets have been made for flow of cold and hot water.
Vashisht temple is made up of well sculpted carvings and inside there is stone image of Rishi Vashisht. Rishi vashisht is one of seven sages of hindus. The temple is said to be around 4000 years old. Adjacent to it is Ram temple with idols of lord Rama, Laksman and goddess Sita. Vashisht village is very scenic with houses made of mud and wood which was typical Himachali style of building houses few decades back. Prayers are carried at temple using traditional instruments.
As per mythology Vishwamitra killed Rishi Vashisht children. Shattered with what happened Rishi Vashisht tried to commit suicide by juming into Vipasha (Beas) river. However river Vipasha refused to kill him and carried him to a village where he restarted his new life and did meditation .Vipasha means “freedom from bondage” and got its name from this incident since it rendered freedom to rishi Vashisht from bondage.
